WEEK 12 - PRACTICAL
WHAT IS PROTOTYPING? WHY USEÂ CARDBOARD?
Prototyping is used as a process in design thinking that refines the overall design of a product, be it its practicality, usefulness, efficiency etc... prototyping allows the creator to test the concept of their idea and improve from it and to potentially evaluate a new design.
Prototyping is used with cardboard as cardboard is cheap, sturdy and recyclable making is a suitable candidate for a process that could potentially be repeated many times.
CARDBOARD JOINT ATTACHMENTS
For this practical session, our team has learnt 8 different types of attachment joints, 2 of which was found through online research which we then had to create a list of those beforementioned cardboard join attachments and present it afterwards.

The 6 that were provided was the
Slots
Flange
Score + Bend
Gusset
Tabs
Tabs + Slots

The 2 that we found ourselves were the
Fastener
Wrap

CONCLUSION
All in all our team felt that it was really an "eye-opener" as our team really enjoyed ourselves during the practical as it was our first time learning that cardboard was really useful and efficient when it comes to prototyping

FLYING UNICORN
FLYING UNICORN
This project teaches us the basics in how to create a moving mechanism in a very simple and digestible way, below are videos shows some of our results in creating it move with rubber bands

CONCLUSION
This week has taught us a lot on how we can improve our prototype and make it functional (mainly moving parts) so that we are able to give others a better understanding and representation of our chemical product. Although it was a bit challenging as working with cardboard which can be fragile at times can prove to be difficult as you require nimble hands in order to work but having patience would do just as fine.
